Ric Careless

B. 1951

For 30 years, Ric has researched, negotiated, lobbied and campaigned – whatever it has taken to conserve the unparalleled landscapes of B.C. He has protected over 8 million acres of parks and wilderness areas and helped link an active network of conservationists across the province. In his twenties, after major involvement with the first successful citizens’ wilderness in B.C. his life’s work has been based on a comprehensive view of the land, talent for both consensus-building and tough negotiations, and an uncompromising belief that wilderness is crucial not only for wildlife, but for our own survival.
