Our purpose

The Elders Council provides folks who have helped to create and build BC's world-class parks system with the opportunity to continue to support it when they retire from full-time park work or advocacy.

Elders Council members participate in action-based project work aimed at ensuring the long-term well-being of BC's world-class parks system.

EKOS Communications and Rick Searle, in collaboration with the Elder's Council for Parks of British Columbia, have produced this short video (approx. 15 mins) which provides a historical overview of the development of British Columbia’s spectacular protected area system from its beginning in the creation of Strathcona Provincial Park in 1911 to the challenges of today. The video features interviews with former park employees and a long-time environmental advocates combined with historical photographs. Voice-over narration ties the clips together to tell a complete story.
